Chaos

We've got snow!  Well, you might think, AND?  Huge subject in England, because we are never prepared.  Admittedly, we're not used to it, but it can't go on like this.  We had 30cm in an hour and it was freezing.  Our winters are normally mild, not -19.6 degrees (as it was yesterday!).  I have never seen a snowplough here.  I am sure that our council does not possess one!  But we have salt and they throw that down by the tonne in the hope it will solve all problems.  This results in terrible ankle deep slush with ice!
The people have poor winter clothing, the houses are often badly insulated and most only use their heating for a couple of hours in the morning and then in the evening.  The schools are closed.  Many shops are shut.  The trains don't run and the airports are useless.
The worst is that the population has no idea how to handle it.  Old people die, because they go out without coats, then fall on the ice and freeze to death.  Then there is the panic.  Those who dare go to the supermarket are panic buying.  The shelves are empty and it isn't because of Christmas.
The whole country is in Chaos and everybody runs around like headless chickens.
There are positives.  It is quiet, no engine sounds, no aircraft.  The children are happy.  They make the most of the snow!

Weihnachtsdeko mal anders/Different Christmas decoration

I saw this yesterday and found it a lovely idea.  I have a number of these old doyleys myself which unfortunately only sit in a drawer, but they are too beautiful to give away.
Maybe next year!

I found this lovely little tree on Bine's Blog and thought it was so nice that I tried it out straight away.  It looks complicated, but it isn't.  The pattern is from here.

Nein, nicht nächste Woche?/No, not next week?

Some weeks ago I congratulated myself on having made my Christmas cards.  Well, I have to admit this year I was a bit lazy and have used photos.  We had the most wonderful snow in England last Winter which fed my passion for all things photographic and film.
It came as a bit of a shock when the first Christmas card arrived.  Wow, they're early, I thought!  Then I realised that Christmas is next week...
I'll be off writing then...

Tisch Manieren/Table Manners

Peas are a bit of a thing in England!  Even my English book at Grammar School had a whole chapter about it.

I learnt that it was ok to use the fork as a shovel, as shown in the second photo.

That's a total no-no in England and shows bad upbringing.  Everything here is eaten with the fork turned over, tines down.  With meat and potatoes or even carrots it's totally doable, but with spaghetti or peas ...?
Hubby demonstrates correct pea eating.  First one squeezes and then one hopes!  Sometimes I feel sorry for him and make mashed potatoes so that one can really embed the little buggers.
