Crossing the Border

Whilst visiting Germany in freezing June I found that a blogger friend, Brigitte of KB, had a sale on.  She does a lot of lovely dyeing and I fancied the idea of trying some of her yarns and fleece.
We set off from the Black Forest to the very heart of Switzerland.  In fact the sort of Switzerland that the British always think of when you mention that country.  For me, having grown up in the border region, Switzerland conjures up many different faces.
We arrived to a very warm welcome from Brigitte and spent ages looking at all her dyed yarns and fibres, but there were many other aspects of art and craft we talked about and she shared with us.  We could have stayed much longer, but we had at least a two hour journey back and it was time for me to make up my mind what to buy.  I settled on a couple of lovely hand dyed yarns and the most beautiful merino and Swiss Mountain Silk fibre mix dyed in bluey purples.  Enough for a jumper or jacket.
It was a wonderful encounter.
Es war eine schöne Begegnung.

Art in Action

Every year in July Waterperry Gardens host Art in Action - a four day bonanza of arts and crafts.  As the name suggests hundreds of artists are demonstrating their craft for the public to observe.  There are tents for textiles, wood, ceramic, glass, metal, painting to name but a few.  I cannot think of anything that is not represented there.
Rosi Robinson with the most astonishing batik paintings I have ever seen!

There are practical classes too, lectures to attend and lots of lovely spots to relax with musical performances.  Inspiration at every corner!
Man konnte praktische Klassen belegen, Vorlesungen besuchen und schöne Sitzplätze finden mit musikalischer Unterhaltung.  Inspiration an jeder Ecke!
Astonishing hats for thousands of pounds.
Woven whimsical tapestries behind glass.
The organisation of the event was meticulous.  Although hundreds of cars came with cars parking was easy and plentiful and the ticket process was swift.  Once inside they thought of everything.  As it was blisteringly hot sun cream was provided and jugs of water everywhere.  Even water for dogs was available!
