Happy New Year

 So Allerlei war los dieses Jahr.

 Ich habe Wolle neu entdeckt in verschiedenen Varianten!  Alpacas im Nachbarort, Wollfabrik auf der Alb und dann natürlich das Spinnen.

Einige Reisen in den Schwarzwald und nach Meersburg zum Hochzeitstag.

Ja, und DIE Hochzeit wo das ganze Land Kopf stand.

Viel Natur...

... und tolle Geschenke.  Eine ganz Liebe hat für mich gestrickt und dann war da noch die kleine Zosia, die uns alle entzückt.

Alles in allem kein schlechtes Jahr und nun wünsche ich Euch allen ein gutes 2012.

 All sorts of things were going on this year.

I have rediscovered wool again in all its variations!  Alpacas in a neighbouring village, a wool factory on the Alb in Germany and spinning of course.

Some trips to the Black Forest and to Meersburg for the wedding anniversary.

 Yes, and THE wedding of the year where the whole country went mad.

A lot of nature...

... and wonderful presents.  A lovely person knitted for me and then there was little Zosia who is adored by all.

And now I wish you all a Happy New Year.

All in all not a bad year and now I wish you a happy 2012.

Happy Christmas

 Ich wünsche allen ein besinnliches Weihnachtsfest und ein gutes Neues Jahr.

Eigentlich..../The plan was....

...wollte ich aufräumen, da bald Weihnachten ist, weil's nötig ist und weil die Mama zu Besuch kommt!!

...to tidy up because it's Christmas soon, it's necessary and my mother is coming to visit!!

Statt dessen habe ich Papier und Schere geholt und geschnippelt und geklebt.  Da enstand ein grosser Stern und zwei Kleine.

Instead I took paper and scissors and chopped and glued.  The result was one large star and a couple of small ones.

Morgen ist auch noch ein Tag!

Navajo

Navajozwirnen kommt ursprünglich von den Navajo Indianern, die ja sehr viel Decken gewebt haben und natürlich auch mit der Spindel ihre Wolle gesponnen haben.  Mit der gleichen Spindel haben sie dann das einmal gesponnene Garn verzwirnt.  

Navajo plying originates with the Navajo Indians, who did a lot of blanket weaving and of course spun their yarn on hand spindles.  They also used the spindles to ply their once spun yarn.

Es sieht immer verdammt schwierig aus, wenn man das am Spinnrad beobachtet, aber ich habe jetzt festgestellt, dass es wirklich ganz einfach ist.  Vor allem wenn man es langsam angeht.  Je mehr Geschwindigkeit, desto mehr Verworrenheit - im Kopf als auch im Garn!  

It always looks incredibly difficult when you watch someone on a wheel, but I have discovered that it really is quite simple.  Especially if you go slowly.  The more speed you have the more confusion reigns - in your head and with the yarn!

Zuerst habe ich gruen, orange und gelb kardiert und ganz normal gesponnen und miteinander verzwirnt.

First I carded green, orange and yellow and spun it in the normal way and then plyed it together.

Dann habe ich die gleichen Farben im Block gesponnen und dann Navajozwirnen ausprobiert und das war das Resultat.

Then I used the same colours, spun them in blocks of colour and then tried Navajo ply and this was the result.

 

Zeit wird's!/About time!

Schon seit dem Sommer ist diese Jacke auf den Nadeln und rückwärts stricken mußte ich zwischendurch auch mal.

Since the Summer this jacket is sitting on the needles and in the meantime I had to frog a bit as well.

Ursprünglich wollte ich die Blende umhäkeln und da dann auch die Knopflöcher mit einarbeiten, aber ich fand es ohne schöner.  Nur was macht man zum Zumachen?

Originally I planned to crochet around the edges and put button holes in, but I liked it better without the crochet.  But then how does one do it up?

Dann habe ich im Internet mal geschnuppert und fand die Knopf Truhe.  Da hat es sehr schöne Sachen.

Then I sniffed around the Internet and found Knopf Truhe.  They have some lovely things.

 

Und jetzt ist das gute Stück endlich fertig, gerade rechtzeitig für das kühlere Wetter!

And now finally it is finished, just in time for the cooler weather!

Gesponnen!/Spun!

 Fast täglich sitze ich ein bißchen am Spinnrad, aber die Resultate lassen noch etwas zu wünschen übrig!

Mal ist das Spinnen schön, dann wieder etwas holperig, um nicht zu sagen dick.  Andere Stellen viiiel zu dünn.  Oh je, oh je....  wird noch werden .... hoffentlich!

Bei diesem Garn könnte ich mal in Erwägung ziehen die Stricknadeln dran zu lassen -  werde berichten.

 Almost every day a sit at the spinning wheel for a time, but the results still leave much to be desired!

Sometimes the spinning is quite even, then less so, or rather too thick.  Other parts are way too thin.  Oh dear, oh dear ... it'll get there ... I hope!

 With this yarn I might consider letting the knitting needles go near it - I will report.

Laub und was man findet!/Leaves and things one finds!

 Im Garten stehen einige große, und sehr alte, Bäume die wirklich eine Pracht sind, aber natürlich haben sie jede Menge Blätter, die dann im Herbst alle geräumt werden müssen.  Und das nicht nur einmal!!

There are a number of big and very old trees in the garden which are a lovely sight, but they have of course a lot of leaves which have to be cleared in the Autum.  And not just once!

 Nachdem wieder alles sauber war sah ich den ersten Frühlingsboten.  Ich freue mich jedes Jahr wie Bolle, wenn das erste Schneeglöckchen rauskommt.

 Once everything was tidied up again I saw the first harbinger of Spring.  Every year I am absolutely chuffed when I see the first snowdrop.

 

Tequila Sunrise Dragon

Vor einiger Zeit erwähnte die liebe Frau Lukreativ auf ihrem Blog, daß sie bald 100 000 Besucher hat und sie hatte vor diesem 100 000sten eine Freude zu machen.

Als ich das nächste Mal bei ihr vorbei schaute konnte ich es kaum glauben, aber ich war der Glückspilz!

Ich durfte mir was Gestricktes aussuchen und hatte schon lange ihre Dragonschals bewundert und jetzt kam doch das Päckchen an mit diesem wunderschönen, herrlichen, weichen, wolligen, farbenfrohen und mit Liebe gestricktem Schal.

Danke, liebe Ulrike, ich bin ganz hin und weg!

A little while ago Frau Lukreativ announced that she woud soon have 100 000 visitors to her blog and she wanted to give a little present to this 100 000th visitor.

Next time I visited her blog I could hardly believe my eyes, but I was the lucky one!

I could choose something knitted and had admired her dragon scarves for some time and the next thing I know is a parcel arrives with this lovely, wonderful, soft, woolly, colourful scarf - knitted with love.

Thank you, dear Ulrike, I'm over the moon!

Geschichte/History

Heute war ein Treffen von der Spinn- und Webgilde und das Thema war Spinnen im 17. Jahrhundert.  Was mich besonders interessierte war die Sozialgeschichte von der Zeit.  Die Dame, die den Vortrag gab, gehört einer Gruppe von Reenactors an die Kämpfe nachstellen und ganze Dörfer aufbauen wo das Leben von damals gezeigt wird.

Today we had a meeting of the Spinners and Weavers Guild and the subject was Spinning in the 17th century.  What interested me particularly was the social history of that time.  The lady who gave the talk belongs to a group of re-enactors of old battles and they also rebuild complete villages to show the life of that time.

Wir haben auch immer einen Verkaufstisch und da Weihnachten schon näher rückt habe ich ein paar Bäumchen zum Aufhängen gebastelt.

 We always have a sales table there and since Christmas is only just around the corner I decided to make some little trees to hang up.

Sowa!

 Meine Freundin hat vor 6 Wochen ein Baby bekommen und da wollte ich ihr und der kleinen Zosia ein Geschenk machen und habe ihr eine Baby Decke genäht.

 My girlfriend had a baby six weeks ago and I wanted to give her and little Zosia a gift.  So I made her a baby blanket.

Vorne Baumwollstoff und hinten Fleece und ein bißchen verschönert.

Cotton fabric on the front and fleece on the back with some decorative stitching.

Und natürlich die Sowa darf nicht fehlen!  Freundin's Name - heißt Eule auf Deutsch.

And I can't miss out the Sowa!  Girlfriend's name - means owl in English.

Und die Tante darf auch mal halten!  Ist sie nicht süß?

Auntie is allowed to hold her too!  Isn't she lovely?

 

London and Zagorche Ensemble

Ein Besuch in London ist immer interessant.

A trip into London is always interesting.

 Und das war der Grund wieder mal nach London zu fahren - die Kinder vom Zagorche Ensemble!

And this was the reason to go up to town again - the children of the Zagorche Ensemble!

Ich war früher auch sehr aktiv beim bulgarischen (und vor allem auch ungarischen) Volkstanz dabei und da kann ich so eine Gelegenheit nicht verpassen.

I used to be very active with Bulgarian (and especially Hungarian) folkdance and can't miss an opportunity like that.

Alte Jeans/Old Jeans

 Ich habe eine alte Jeans zur Tasche umfunktioniert.  Einfach die Beine abgeschnitten, verziert und gefüttert und die Träger mit Kamsnaps angebracht.  Fertig!

 I have turned an old pair of Jeans into a bag.  I just cut off the legs, decorated and lined it and attached the straps with kamsnaps (poppers). Done!
