Sessa revisited

Sessa is a tiny  village which lies between Ponte Tresa (Lago di Lugano) and Luino (Lago Maggiore) in a beautiful upland valley in the southernmost part of Switzerland, about 2 minutes walk to the border with Italy.  It has all the sophistication of being Swiss, yet all the charm of being Italian.  Their local language is Ticinese, linked to Romansch, the fourth language of Switzerland.
I have known Ticino for most of my life and my experiences in that part of the world have played the most significant role in my personal life journey.  Without it I would not be the person I am today.  So this is a very special place for me.

Escaping the grey

After waiting all Summer for a Summer which didn't materialise we finally decided that we needed to see some blue sky and headed off to the Italian part of Switzerland - Ticino.  This was our first flight from London City Airport and it was very hassle free, but getting there by Tube was very laborious.  We had tremendous views though flying out that way.
First stop was a night with my mother in the Black Forest and then on down to the lake (Constance) where we had a light breakfast!!!  Then on towards San Bernardino and the sun is already shining.

Wieder im anderen Zuhause/Back in the other home

It's always lovely to go to the Black Forest, but especially at this time of year.
I love the market with all their fresh produce.  In England the choise is more limited and everything is picked before it's ripe.

We went to the vegetable island on Lake Constance - Reichenau.  The weather was perfect.

And here a view towards Switzerland.
And then I went to the factory outlet of Opal wool, but I will write a separate post about that!
Liebe Grüße

Chaos

We've got snow!  Well, you might think, AND?  Huge subject in England, because we are never prepared.  Admittedly, we're not used to it, but it can't go on like this.  We had 30cm in an hour and it was freezing.  Our winters are normally mild, not -19.6 degrees (as it was yesterday!).  I have never seen a snowplough here.  I am sure that our council does not possess one!  But we have salt and they throw that down by the tonne in the hope it will solve all problems.  This results in terrible ankle deep slush with ice!
The people have poor winter clothing, the houses are often badly insulated and most only use their heating for a couple of hours in the morning and then in the evening.  The schools are closed.  Many shops are shut.  The trains don't run and the airports are useless.
The worst is that the population has no idea how to handle it.  Old people die, because they go out without coats, then fall on the ice and freeze to death.  Then there is the panic.  Those who dare go to the supermarket are panic buying.  The shelves are empty and it isn't because of Christmas.
The whole country is in Chaos and everybody runs around like headless chickens.
There are positives.  It is quiet, no engine sounds, no aircraft.  The children are happy.  They make the most of the snow!
