Muttertag Häkelnetz

Zum Muttertag sollte es was Selbstgemachtes sein und ich habe schon eine Weile nichts mehr gehäkelt und hatte noch so schöne Baumwolle da.  Braun, orange, shocking pink, helles blau, Gift grün.

For Mother's Day I wanted to make something and as I still had some nice cottons and hadn't done any crochet for a while that's what I chose.  Brown, orange, shocking pink, pale blue, lime green.

About Crochet hat immer so schöne Muster auf ihrem Blog und ich habe dieses Netz vor einiger Zeit schon einmal gemacht.  Die Muster sind sehr gut beschrieben und sie denkt immer an kleine Details, wie zum Beispiel hier die letzte Reihe am Henkel und die kurze Reihe zwischen den Henkeln.  Eigentlich hätte es halbe Stäbchen sein sollen direkt über dem Netz, aber bei mir gibt's immer kleine Abweichungen, könnte  auch nie 100% nach einem Rezept kochen! 

Es hat aber Spass gemacht mal wieder zu häkeln!

About Crochet has some lovely patterns on her blog and I have made this mesh bag before.  The patterns are very well described and she pays attention to small details, like here with the last row on the handle and the short row between the handles.  It should have been half dcs  just above the mesh, but my things always deviate a bit, just as I could not follow a recipe 100%!

It was good to do some crochet again though.

Happy Mother's Day!

Table Runner

A little while ago I bought some lovely cotton yarn for weaving as I had in mind making a small table runner for my mother's birthday.  As I am new to this game I thought I would keep it simple and stuck to a twill which worked out pretty well.  As usual with my weaving it never quite turns out as expected!!

Vor Kurzem kaufte ich Baumwollgarn zum Weben da ich einen Tischläufer fuer meine Mutter zum Geburtstag weben wollte.  Da ich neu im Weben bin habe ich es schlicht gehalten und einfach einen normalen Twill gewebt und bin ganz zufrieden damit.  Wie immer bei meinem Weben kommt es nicht ganz so raus wie erwartet!!

As always the warp takes ages, as does the finishing off, but then the weaving is relatively quick.

Wie immer dauert es ewig bis die Kette fertig ist, und dann das Fertigstellen ist auch nicht das Schnellste, aber das Weben geht doch immer recht flott.

The colours worked quite well and I think my mum liked it.

Die Farben kamen gut raus und ich denke es hat meiner Mutter gefallen.

The Magic Dragon will wing its way tomorrow and I hope it won't take too long.  Presumably there is no hurry now with the approach of Summer.

Give Away

Some time ago a dear friend knitted a Magic Dragon Scarf for me in the most wonderful colours and hardly a day goes by when it is cold that I don't wear that scarf.  I absolutely love it and always think of Ulrike when I wear it.

Vor einiger Zeit hat eine liebe Freundin einen Magic Dragon Scarf fuer mich in den herrlichsten Farben gestrickt und wenn es kalt ist trage ich den Schal taeglich.  Ich liebe ihn und ich denke immer an Ulrike wenn ich ihn trage.

  Now I have finally got around to knitting one myself and  have enjoyed it immensely.

Jetzt bin ich endlich mal dazu gekommen selbst einen zu stricken und es hat mir viel Spass gemacht.  Da ich noch nie einen Give Away organisiert habe dachte ich es wäre eine gute Gelegenheit jemanden eine kleine Freude zu machen.

Sewing machine still works!

Although I have been sewing for a very long time I lack confidence and I always find good excuses why the sewing machine is still resting!  During the winter however I bought a beautiful knitted fabric with felted embellishments and I couldn't possibly just put the fabric in the cupboard for the next winter.  I also bought a really simple pattern to make a tunic/dress.

Obwohl ich schon lange nähe habe ich immer Angst davor und finde gute Gründe um die Nähmaschine im Eck verstauben zu lassen!  Diesen Winter kaufte ich jedoch einen wunderschönen Strickstoff mit gefilztem Detail und konnte ja nun wirklich diesen Stoff nicht bis zum nächsten Winter im Schrank liegen lassen.  Ich kaufte auch ein ganz einfaches Muster für eine Tunika/Kleid.

The lady who sold it to me said I could just leave all the cut edges and simply run a stitch around to be doubly sure it wouldn't fray.  So after I took my life into my hands with the scissors - always the scariest part - it took no time at all until the dress was finished.  I could hardly believe it.

Die Dame im Laden sagte, dass ich gar nichts versäubern müsste bei dem Stoff, ausser vielleicht kurz absteppen, dass nichts franst.  Nachdem ich mich dann endlich traute den Stoff anzuschneiden - immer Furcht erregend - war das Kleid ratz fatz fertig.  Ich konnte es kaum glauben.

There were some strange offcuts and I pondered what to do with them.  I turned those into a little pouch bag and made some handles from twisted cotton yarn.  A couple of other bits were enough to make some wrist warmers.

Ich hatte seltsame Reste und überlegte wie ich die verwerten könnte.  Sie waren perfekt für ein kleines rundes Täschchen und die Riemen sind aus gedrehtem Baumwollgarn.  Zwei weitere Stücke reichten für  Pulswärmer.

Busy Bees Buzzing Around

For quite a while now I have been reading Fi's Blog called MarmaladeRose and have been totally amazed at her craftsmanship.  She is quite versatile and all things are lovely, but I fell in love with her felting.

Schon eine Weile lese ich Fi's Blog MarmaladeRose und erfreue mich an ihrer wunderbaren Arbeit.  Sie macht ganz diverse Dinge und sie sind alle schön, aber ich habe mich in ihre Filzarbeit verliebt.

I saw a felted bag on her blog one day which had a cheeky gnome on the front and that thought would just not leave me.  Eventually I wrote to Fi to ask about the bags and if she would consider a commission.  The timing was fortuitous too as my birthday loomed and Hubby said he needed ideas!!!  That was all the encouragement I needed!  After much deliberation I decided against the gnome thinking of the my advancing years and we can't be children all our lives (actually, why not?).  Fi had done a fabulous 'Magical Meadow' wall hanging and she agreed to make me a bag along that theme, but from then on all dealings were secret!!

Ich sah eine gefilzte Tasche auf ihrem Blog mit einem zwinkernden Zwerg und ich musste immer wieder dran denken.  Ich entschloss mich Fi zu fragen ob sie mir so eine Tasche machen würde.  Der Zeitpunkt war perfekt da Männe Ideen für meinen Geburtstag brauchte!!  Mehr Ermunterung brauchte ich nicht!!  Nach einigem Überlegen entschied ich mich für ein anderes Motiv, denn wir ich werden ja nicht jünger und können nicht ewig Kinder bleiben (wieso eigentlich nicht?).  Fi hatte einen herrlichen Wandbehang gemacht mit dem Titel Magical Meadow und sie war bereit mir eine Tasche zu diesem Thema zu machen, aber ab diesem Punkt war alles geheim!!

I heard nothing more until the birthday when I unpacked this beautiful bag with the busy buzzy bees.  I really loooove it and it was everything I hoped it would be.  There were two things that struck me immediately.  The first was its weight - light as a feather.  The second was the exquisite quality of the felting.  I had no idea that felting could be like that. 

 I'm over the moon - thank you Hubby and thank you Fi.

Ich hörte nichts mehr bis ich am Geburtstag die wunderschöne Tasche auspackte mit diesen fleissigen Bienchen.  So ist sooooo schön und sie ist wirklich so wie ich es erhofft hatte.  Zwei Dinge fielen mir sofort auf.  Das Erste war das Gewicht - es scheinte nichts zu wiegen.  Das Zweite war die erstaunliche Qualität des Filzens.  Ich hatte keine Ahnung, dass man so filzen kann.  

I am over the moon (keine Ahnung in Deutsch!) - vielen Dank Männe und vielen Dank Fi.

Der Zeit voraus - Ahead of the times

Neulich wurde ich vom Pastor von unserer Hochzeit angeschrieben ob er ein Bild von uns auf seiner neuen Homepage einstellen darf und er hatte auch gleich seinen Link dazu mitgeschickt.  Klar darf er!

Da wir ja in England leben und keinen eigenen Pastor damals hatten machte ich mich auf Googlesuche, aber Rent a Pastor gab es dort noch nicht, aber trotzdem fanden wir Wolf der eine hervorragende Feier für uns gestaltete mit einer sehr schönen Ansprache.

Schon lange dachte ich, dass da eine Marktlücke ist, denn wir waren bestimmt nicht die Einzigen die nicht in ihrer Gemeinde heiraten wollten.  Tja, offensichtlich ist die Lücke jetzt gestopft und wir wünschen Wolf viel Erfolg!

Recently the pastor from our wedding mailed me to ask if he could use a photo of us for his new homepage and included a link.  Of course he can!

Since we live in England and did not have our own pastor I did a Google search, but rent a pastor did not exist then, but nevertheless we found Wolf and he did a marvellous ceremony for us.

For a long time I had wondered if there was a gap in the market as we can't have been the only people who didn't get married in their own community.  Well, obviously the gap has now been filled and Good Luck, Wolf!

Cables - Zopf

The longest time I had wanted to do some cables and last year I bought this lovely Lana Grossa wool in my favourite yarn shop in the Black Forest and decided to make a short jumper.

Lange schon will ich mal wieder Zopfmuster stricken und letztes Jahr kaufte ich schoene Lana Grossa Wolle in meinem Lieblingsgeschäft und habe jetzt einen kurzen Pulli gestrickt.

Having worn it now a few times I can report that it is really cosy and soft and wonderfully warm.  This time I made a different type of neck which turned out very well and I find much more comfortable than a normal V.  Since I liked it so much another lot of Lana Grossa found its way into my luggage on my last trip!!

Nachdem ich ihn jetzt ein paarmal getragen habe kann ich sagen, dass er herrlich weich und wunderbar warm ist.  Diesmal habe ich einen etwas anderen Ausschnitt gemacht, der sehr gut rauskam und angenehmer ist wie herkoemmliche V-Ausschnitte.   Da mir das so imponierte befand sich eine weitere Lana Grossa Menge in meinem Gepäck beim letzten Trip!!

Under the Desk

Ich hatte noch so viel Wolle übrig und der Stuhl am Schreibtisch stand auf einem uralt Teppich, so dass ich mit der restlichen Kette vom grossen Teppich noch einen Kleinen webte.  Eigentlich war er ohne Fransen geplant, aber irgendwie hatte ich dann auch keine Lust mehr die Kettenenden alle einzunähen!  Jetzt eben mit und mir gefällt es so auch.

I had piles of wool left over and the chair at the desk stood on an ancient carpet so that I used the remaining warp of the big rug and wove a little one.  The plan was without fringe, but somehow having tidied up the back I really didn't feel like sewing in all those warp ends!  Now it's with a fringe and I quite like it like that.
