I have done crochet since childhood.  Granny squares for blankets or cushions, flowers, dresses, skirts, tops, hats and even trousers for Barbie and her family!!  But I have never done any crochet for myself.  Then I found this pattern and thought it might be suitable for a cardigan.  I bought this cotton last Summer to knit something with stripes, but somehow the stripe idea didn't appeal in the end and I left it and my thoughts to mature for a while!
The buttons are porcelain made by a spinning friend who is a potter.
Ich bin mit dem Resultat recht zufrieden......   I'm quite pleased with the result...

Open Studio

Each year in June studios open to the public and it is absolutely amazing what talent there is.  I have never been involved with, but my weaving studio took part and through that I met a number of people who exhibited and then I went to have a look at some of them.
One of my spinning friends is a potter and I was amazed how talented she is.  She uses beautiful colours and unusual shapes.  She also makes porcelain buttons.  A basket weaver was showing some items there too.
Near by we found a studio of a photographer who travels the world.  What I liked particularly there were the portraits and the blue cyanotype pictures.
His wife is also very talented and works with beads and makes the most amazing jewellery.
Some members of the Guild also belong to another weaving group and they were showing their work too.  Quite diverse and all beautiful.
I spent most of the week at the studio and we had quite a few visitors and helpers and there was a lot of chatter, but we also did some work.  Weaving, spinning and tapestry weaving.  We had wonderful tea parties with home made cakes and mango icecream to die for!

So viel Talent, so viel Inspiration!....So much talent, so much inspiration!....

Happy Face

I had absolutely no idea what might be a nice surprise for Mother's Day (in May in Germany) and when I looked at my lovely Wensleydale locks I suddenly had an idea.
First I had to draw all the bits and cut them out and pulled out my fabrics and then just started sewing on the machine.  And suddenly this face was beaming at me!
The whole thing is mounted on canvas with hooks and picture cord attached to the back and now hangs on my mother's wall.

Rug Update

Although I haven't posted any photos lately the rug is growing!  Slow, but steady progress and I really love weaving.
I'm on the third inlay now and they really do take quite a bit of time, but it is beginning to take shape now.

Welcome to some new readers

On this windswept day I would like to welcome 3 new readers to my blog.

Ellie Great is from Auckland and helps talented children fulfil their creative potential.  Lots of lovely videos to look at.  Take a look at Lovestitch who is really into crochet work and is generally full of good ideas.  Heatherabarrick is a mystery as she has a blog, but no posts on it.

I hope you'll enjoy what you find here.

Indigo

A few days ago I went to an Indigo dyeing workshop.  I have never done any dyeing before and decided to take a variety of wool with me.  I had some handspun and some commercial yarn.  Two of the handspuns were already dyed, but even they came out well.
We had a lot of fun and mess, but very good results.  Now I just have to decide what to do with it all!

Yummy Colours

For a while now I have been hunting around for a particular mercerised cotton yarn with a bit of sheen at an affordable price.  Finally I have found a source, Country Crafts, and there are more colours.  Aren't these colours just brilliant?  Perfect for small crochet projects I have in mind - all I need is a bit of spare time to play!

Some time ago I tried my first felting project.  I knitted a beautiful bag, put it in the washing machine and took out a disaster.  Totally ruined and not one centimetre was usable!  I said "never again!".
Then I saw a jester bag at an exhibition from Sheepfold and the lady on the stand said it was easy to make and I should buy the kit.  No, I said, not doing that again, won't work, total waste of time.  I bought it, knitted, felted and looked on in ASTONISHMENT!  Out of the washing machine came this lovely bag.

Rug Warp

I have been sorting out the warp for my rug for some time now.
Today I hope to at least make a start on the test weave.
